On July 6, 2026, the grade 11 and 12 of the TG and students of the Berufskolleg took part in the workshop “Laugh ‘n’ Learn – The Ridiculous Rhyme Show”. Laugh ‘n’ Learn is a British company that visits schools in many different countries. The workshop was created by Joe Chambers and Andrew Crawford, who also worked on the BBC children’s TV show The Rhyme Rocket. Their aim is to improve students’ English in a fun and interactive way while also giving them an insight into the world of film and television.
At the beginning of the workshop, we talked about different TV shows and films that we know. After that, we learned about the different jobs on a film set. We discussed what each person does. Important people are the actors, the director, the producer, the camera crew, the lighting team, the sound team, the runner and the hair and make-up artists.
Then we produced our own TV show. Some students were actors, while others got the jobs behind the camera. The rest of the group was the audience. They gasped, laughed or reacted to the scenes to make the show feel more realistic.
Before we started filming, we had been practicing the scene together. Then we filmed it several times, just like on a real film set. We even used a clapperboard and the crew gave professional instructions such as “Lights!”, “Sound!”, “Action!” and “Cut!”. This helped us to understand how a real TV or film production works.
At the end of the workshop, we had the chance to ask the two presenters questions about their jobs, their lives as actresses and their experiences on film sets. It was very interesting to hear about their work and learn more about the film industry.
Overall, we really enjoyed the workshop. It was fun, interesting and interactive. We learned a lot about the different jobs on a film set and experienced what it is like to be part of a real TV production. It was a great way to practise our English while learning something new.
